Text: Elementary Numerical Analysis by Atkinson & Han.

Additional reference:   Afternotes on Numerical Analysis by G.W. Stewart.

Syllabus:   We will cover all or parts of chapters 1 through 6 in Atkinson & Han.

Course Objectives:   This course is intended to introduce students to some of the basic ideas in Numerical Analysis. We will supplement our theoretical work with computer work using MATLAB.

For further information on MATLAB, I recommend A Guide to MATLAB by Hunt, Lipsman & Rosenberg.

Exams and Assignments:   There will be two midterm exams, several assignments to be handed in and a final exam on Wednesday, December 15 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

First Hour Exam: Friday, October 15 Covers chapters 2,4 & 6 in the text.
Second Hour Exam: Monday, November 22 Covers material on least squares, chapter 5 and the beginning of chapter 3 in the text.

Grading:   Approximately 40% midterms, 30% assignments, 30% final exam.
