Homework

When homework problems are taken from the textbook, the section numbers refer to the section numbers in the book.

Homework is due in class on the due date, before the beginning of class.   If you cannot make it to class, please make sure to get me the homework on time.  Homework should not be left in my mailbox or under my door.  Such homework, as well as late homework will not be graded and will be considered as "not done".

Homework #1 (Due February 2)

In this homework you will be reviewing Matlab and learning LaTeX.

1) Read Chapter 1 (Introduction to Matlab) http://www.mathworks.com/moler/chapters.html.

Solve problems 17. 38. 39

2) Skim over Introduction to LaTeX

Type (in LaTeX) the second half of page 650 (starting from Proof of Theorem I)  of the paper “The Impact of Cell Density and Mutations in a Model of Multidrug Resistance in Solid Tumors".  (ignore the red color in the equation numbers, keep it black and white). It does not have to be an exact copy but you should use LaTeX.

When submitting the solutions to this problem print out the output of latex only.  You do not need to attach the latex source.

LaTex can be downloaded for free.  For a mac I recommend mactex (tug.org/mactex) for PC, see miktex (www.miktex.org).  There are other latex distributions and you are welcomed to use any of them.
