Math 340 Matlab help
- If you do not already have a wam computer account see here.
Information about computer labs where you can work on the matlab
homework assignments is available here.
Not all labs have matlab, see the list here, for
example the parking garage and Worcester Hall labs have Matlab and are
open 24 hours a day. If you would prefer to work on your own
computer, you
might
wish to purchase your own copy of The MATLAB Student Version,
available at the University
Book Center for about $100 or from
The MathWorks web site.
- You can run Matlab on university computers from your home
computer, especially if you are not using graphics. To access
matlab, ssh to wam.umd.edu. See here if you
need to download a program which will ssh. You can also log in using web based ssh. At the
unix command prompt type tap
matlab. At the next prompt, type matlab, and matlab will be off and
running. This will allow
you to enter commands to matlab, but you will not see any graphics
output. However you may be able to save your graphics output in
some formats, eps for example but not jpeg. If you have a
Macintosh computer running OSX you can also see graphics.
Download
and install X11 from the apple web site. Launch X11 and give the
command ssh -X yourusername@wam.umd.edu at the unix prompt. Log
in to wam, type tap matlab, then type matlab and you are off and
running. I presume the same will work if you are running Linux
but
I have not tested it.
- If you want to check out other Matlab sources here is a Matlab
tutorial (in
postscript format) or here's
another one and yet
another.
- The math department offers matlab tutoring, see here.
