Basics

• Meeting: Lecture meets every weekday from 9:30-10:50 in MTH 0302.

• Description: Math 310 is an introduction to proof and analysis. Mostly it's about proving things. As a summer class we move quickly so you cannot afford to get behind by even a day or two. You have been warned!
• Book: The book is Mathematical Proofs - A Transition to Advanced Mathematics, Second Edition by Chartrand, Polimeni and Zhang. ISBN-10 is 0-321-39053-9 and ISBN-13 is 978-0-321-39053-0.
• Format: Each class will involve one hour of lecture followed by 20 minutes of groupwork. These are approximations. The groupwork is collected and graded. The schedule below is my best approximation of what we'll cover on each day. This will be modified if needed as the days progress.
• Groupwork: Collected at the end of each day.
• Homework: Homework will be handed out in class and also posted on this web page. There will be an assignment approximately every couple of days due within a couple more days. All dates will be made clear when the homework is assigned. There are also suggested problems listed below, you should try as many of these as possible.
• Exams: There will be three exams: On Monday 7/23, on Monday 8/6 and on Friday 8/19. These will not be cumulative.
