Subject: WebAssign Fall 2008 Semester


Dear Mathusers:

This is directed to all those who will be or may be using WebAssign for the
fall semester.  These notes are important, please read them.

1. Please email me if you have any questions about setting up courses,
scheduling assignments, etc.  I have a few documents you are welcome to use
and distribute at:

http://www.math.umd.edu/~jow/misc/

2. Recall that your students should be logging in through:

http://www.webassign.net/umd/login.html

which redirects them to a UMD login page for authentication (via a method
called Shibboleth, the name and method are irrelevant for you) and then back
to WebAssign.  They DO NOT NEED any WebAssign-specific login information,
all they need is their UMD username and password.

Note that this is a different link than when they took the placement exam
over the summer.  This rarely causes confusion.

3. IMPORTANT: You have two choices for rostering your courses, you can
either do it yourself (if you know how) or ask me and I will take care of it
on the first day of classes.  If you are not 100% sure how to do it
yourself, ask me.  Errors in enrollment method can cause dramatic and
exciting problems later on.

4. EQUALLY IMPORTANT: WebAssign has a self-enrollment feature which is
totally incompatible with the Shibboleth login method.  Therefore DO NOT
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE SELF-ENROLLMENT FOR YOUR WEBASSIGN COURSES.
