We'll be covering the theory of finite dimensional representations of compact Lie groups, complex reductive groups and Lie algebras. Topics include:
- Structure theory, the Weyl group
- SL(2)
- Highest weight theory
- Freudenthal's formula
- The Weyl character formula
- Infinitesimal character and Harish-Chandra's theorem
- Verma modules and category O
- The Atlas of Lie Groups and Representations software
The basic reference is Lie Algebras and Representation Theory by Jim Humphreys, but there will be other resources as well.
