Interior point methods are a potentially efficient way of solving the phase problem that will allow the determination of the molecular structure of proteins. In this talk we will discuss how the phase problem arises and what techniques have been useful to solve the problem for small molecules. Our purpose is to use interior point methods by posing the problem as a constrained minimization problem that will add known information about the distribution of the scattering atoms that form the macromolecule.
