Simulations on and Simulation of Large Scale Computing Platforms

Large computing platforms have the potential to effect major scientific advancements through simulation. However, they also present immense challenges at every stage of the development process. In this talk, I will briefly describe my own point of view on how to use large machines to solve kinetic equations. I will also give my "pie-in-the-sky" thoughts on how one might reverse the situation and use kinetic equations to simulate a large machine, which itself can be thought of as a complex system.
