Numerical Solvers for Implicit PN discretizations of Transport EquationsMay 2 - 6, 2016Computer Science and Math. Division, ORNL |
ABSTRACTSpherical harmonic approximations are a well-known method for discretizing equations of radiation transport. While formally spectrally accurate, the approximation suffers from several drawbacks and is therefore not frequently used in practice. One of the primary issues is the ability to solve the equations in a steady-state or time-implicit framework. This KIT will focus specifically on this issue. GOALSThe goals of the meeting are: 1) Explore and leverage the special structure of the PN equations to design a general framework for iterative solvers. 2) Begin the implementation process with a specific choice of spatial discretization. |
