Course description:
Basic concepts of linear algebra: vector spaces, applications to line and plane geometry, linear equations and matrices, similar matrices, linear transformations, eigenvalues, determinants and quadratic forms. Throughout the semester, we will discuss several important applications of linear algebra (electrical networks, difference equations, discrete dynamical systems, Markov chains, system of differential equations).
MATLAB:
There will be some MATLAB assignments, to be handed in discussion session. The assignments and their due dates are posted on the course web site. You are encouraged to work in groups of two students from the SAME SECTION. Of course, you may also work alone if you wish. Each group will hand in just one copy of the assignment (it is understood that both students will contribute significantly to the assignment). Your completed assignment should include a printout of relevant matlab input and output, as well as any additional analysis of the problem that may be required.

There will be three midterm exams and one final exam. The midterm exams will be held during the lecture sessions on the following dates:
